As I was enjoying all the great quilts at Quilt Expo in Madison I came across this piece made by LeaAnn Wente and Sally Giordana. Longarm quilter Pat Barry did a beautiful job of finishing the piece. It was like running into a familiar friend! I designed this pattern based on antique four block quilts and the original quilt is displayed in my sewing room. After finishing the quilt in 1999 it was exhibited at AQS in Paducah. Oxmoor Publishing included the quilt and a pattern in Great American Quilts, Book Eight in 2000.
The "W" in the baskets was a tribute to my dad, Warner, who passed away suddenly, too young. I discovered the four-block applique style at a Gwen Marston retreat. I still love the bold repetition of a large pattern, an old design that has a very modern look.
