The History of Quilting from the Middle Ages to the Present
Have you ever wondered about the origin of this art we so passionately pursue? In a 20 minute presentation we'll cover the highlights of the history of the art of assembling three layers of material then securing them with stitching. Quilted bed covers and garments have been with us for centuries. The American tradition of patchwork quilting from the earliest days of the settlers is the frame of reference for our time. The resurgence of quilt making that began in the 1960s was based on American patchwork patterns but soon branched out to other genres. We'll finish up by looking at quilting in American today with some facts about who quilters are and what we do that are astonishing. A trunk show will follow with representative samples of four main genres of quilting today.
